podiatry

Sometimes it is the little things that make a difference.

We recognise that those little things can often be increasingly difficult to do – and have a cost attached, and so we have contracted registered podiatrists to deliver this service free of charge to you.

Podiatry, for those that have not come across this before, is the treatment and care of your feet.

If you are requiring an appointment with one of our podiatrists, we recommend you let us know at least a week in advance.

The podiatrist will require certain information before your first appointment, such as any medication you are currently taking, if you have diabetes or if you are on blood thinning tablets.
La Donna Stancliffe-Deans (PNZ Registered, BSc Hons, BSc Hons Podiatry) and Paul Maddox (PNZ Registered,  BHSc (POD) (Hons), University of Sunderland, United Kingdom), offer their extensive expertise and services to Palliative patients requiring attention to their feet – whether it be toenails or other feet issues that have come about.
Picture
With nearly a quarter of the total bones in our bodies and an intricate network of joints, ligaments and muscles, our feet carry us through every task we tackle on a daily basis.

Problems with feet are more common in later life as the skin’s elasticity and circulation decrease and we are less able to reach comfortably to our own feet to clip nails etc.

This service is available at our Hospice base Te Kowhai in our beautiful Wellness Therapy Room or if you are unable to come to us, then we can arrange the podiatrist to visit you at home.
Hospice services are available free of charge to all of those that have a life limiting illness in the Wairarapa.
If you are interested in this service please contact our Clinical Services Manager  or phone 06 378 8888 to discuss further.
