Volunteering at Hospice Wairarapa

Volunteers are important and valued members of the Hospice Wairarapa team. They help in many different ways.

We have a variety of roles for volunteers, some working with patients while others work behind the scenes or in our retail shops, garage sale or assisting with special projects and fundraising.

Whether you want to get involved weekly, monthly or only occasionally - we will have a role for you. Our volunteers have ongoing guidance and support from our volunteer manager.

Some benefits of volunteering include meeting new people and making new friends, acquiring new skills and different life experiences. Volunteering can also increase well-being by giving a sense of purpose and doing meaningful, interesting work.

We offer training for different roles, and we will match your interests, skills, and availability to the available vacancies. Your happiness and satisfaction are important to us.

Some ways you can volunteer:

  • Care Companion programme

  • Garage sale and retail shops - sorting or on the shop floor

  • Fundraising events and our annual appeal

  • Gardeners

  • Biography writing

  • Van drivers for shop pick-ups and deliveries

  • Micro-volunteering for specific tasks.
